Windshield Replacements?
Have you ever questioned what kind of job you are going to be getting with your windshield replacement? Likely you haven’t, you have relied on companies to be fully ethical and do you the best job. That is what should happen every time and I agree with that full heartedly. Here are some things you should know going into this process. What kind of urethane windshield adhesive are they using? Are they applying the glue and installing everything on a clean surface? Do they use primers?
I’ll address some of these questions starting with the urethane. We use Dow Express Betaseal urethane with a 60 minute safe drive away cure time. This glue is a glue that requires primer which is very important and I’ll touch base on that shortly. Betaseal Express is up to OEM standards, high modulus and is actually used to seal battery packs in your car. It is a very trusted product that you know can back you up for the long run.
It is important to have a clean surface. Some people just take a brush and wipe away dirt but we use water and dry towels including removal of the old urethane to get the distance just right when setting the new windshield. This is important like anything when it comes to using sealants you should always have a clean reliable surface for install.
Finally, Primer! This is one of the most overlooked portion I notice in todays world. Competitors use primer less urethane for speed over primer so often. I’ve seen this used countless times and although it holds up fine and bonds in most cases, there is a key point to why using primer is better. Protection! Protection against rust and protection against any malfunctions in primerless glue. It’s that extra step in quality that matters.
